Rags - I was Adopted!

Rags originally came to our rescue in February of 2007.  He had been attacked by a Rottweiler before he came to the Angels.  His injuries were healed, but emotionally he was a mess.  It took months for his foster mom and her daughter to be able to touch his head and neck.

Rags was adopted in May 2007, but was returned to us in late August 2007.  He was experiencing aggression problems and was still not potty-trained.  He is currently being fostered in Indianapolis, IN.

His new foster mom took him to the vet for a full check-up.  Rags is much older than what we were told when we took him into our rescue.  He has advanced cataracts, advanced arthritis in his hips/spine/ribs, a mild heart murmur and lung crackling which is the beginning sign of congestive heart failure and one of his canine teeth will need to come out as it was twisted when he was in the fight with the Rottweiler.  Thankfully his senior blood work came back completely normal.

Most of the time he is a very nice boy, but he can become aggressive quickly.  Because of his cataracts, he has no depth perception and tends to lunge when he bites.  Subsequently he will not be allowed to attend any pet adoption events.  Also due to the cataracts, he is very afraid of lightning and cameras.  He literally will shake for 10-15 min. when he sees a camera, even before the picture is taken.  He does not tolerate men picking him up and will bite in retaliation.  So far he has been okay when his foster mom picks him up.  Rags will be having a dental soon to clean his teeth and fix the canine tooth.  He is taking Cosequin and flax seed oil daily to help his arthritis feel better.

Rags is slowly learning that he should potty outside, but wears a belly band when he is left alone.  He has learned that he has to sit before he can have his food and before we will hook up his leash for a walk.  He has also learned to take treats nicely.  He loves to play with squeaky tennis balls, but spends most of his day sleeping on his favorite comforter.

Due to Rags' aggression and health problems he is considered a forever foster.  The Angels will look after him for the rest of his days.  If you would like to make a donation to help us care for Rags, it would be much appreciated.

Well, if ya get a notion to feel sorry for me and want to send me some money for some food and treats or maybe a new bed I would be very appreciative.  Click on the donate button below and then I’ll send my mom shopping.  Thanks a bunch for visiting and stop back again to say hi, I love visitors.
