Dear Petite Paws,

I am writing you with some sad news about Kasey.  Last week Kasey had to be hospitalized because of bowel and bladder problems. 

I gave Kasey some IAMS dog food because he refused to eat the other Science diet dog food , and it had been several days of him not eating anything more than doggie treats, I later found out about the pet food contamination.  The vet said that his kidneys were not functioning.

At first he seemed to be ok but last week he developed diarrhea and he would not take any food only water. I rushed him to the vet, on Fri 3-23, Illiana Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Gaan called me on Saturday after she received his blood work and let me know his kidney function was not in the normal range as well as many other complications. So he has been receiving antibiotics and IV fluids for food. I don't know the protocol for these types of actions. The Dr. feels it's in Kasey's best interest to not let him suffer. 

Dr. Gaan has contacted IAMS and they are aware that the food Kasey ate contributed to his condition. So we are waiting to hear from them. But this does not fill the loss I feel for Kasey. Even though I only had him for a short while, I loved him like I had him from a pup. He was a sweetheart.  When I do get another Yorkie he will be named Kasey II.

Kasey was ADOPTED!

Update 7/7/06

Well, even though Kasey shows all the classic textbook symptoms of Cushings Disease, all of his re-tests came back in the normal range.  He ran out of the drug he was on and we found out it is not FDA approved in the USA so were unable to get any.  He has been off all medication for over a month now and is doing just fine without it.  We do have him on an OTC Liver supplement that runs $18.00 for 30 tabs.  He gets one tab per day.  Kasey would sure like his very own forever home.
