Lizzy is a
year and a half old. She was dumped at the shelter by a breeder.
The vet at the shelter felt she was hopeless, but the shelter contacted us
right away and we took her in.
Lizzy is skin on bones. She has very
little hair. She has been diagnosed with
Diabetic Ketoacidosis, or
DKA, which is one of the most serious metabolic
disorders seen in both human and veterinary medicine.
The survival rate for dogs with this condition is only 60 - 70 percent.
Lizzy has
been through a battery of medical testing. She is currently taking two
insulin injections per day and is doing OK so far. She is a very sweet
little girl and a real trooper. You would never guess she was sick.
We still
have a few more tests to run to try and determine the underlying cause of
her diabetes. She is much to young too give up on and we will do
everything possible to help her.
Please help
us help her by sending a donation for her treatment.
Lizzy is being fostered in
NW Indiana.

We are working hard on getting Lizzy's insulin injections regulated to the
proper dosage. The insulin is helping her. She is eating
prescription food and she has even gained 7 ounces. We have run many
tests and have done an ultrasound, but nothing is out of the ordinary to
determine if there is an under lying cause for the diabetes. The vets
say it is so uncommon for her at this young age to even have diabetes.
We will just continue what we
are doing, run some retesting in a few weeks and hope for the best.
She is such a sweet little girl and loves everybody. She takes her
injections like a trooper.
Her bills are mounting and to date are totaling
over $1300.00, please help us help her.
